I'm going to Disneyland...Oh wait, that's if I win the Superbowl...:biggrin_25517:. Actually I have several additions I have to add to my house since my MIL is living with us now. The biggest will be mostly up once I get home early next month. After that I will get the smaller ones as time allows.

When I'm going up hills I have white smoke shooting out the exhaust (a lot ) every time. Have a solid warn engine light (only comes on on a steep grade and then stays on, goes off after I restart) and hearing the engine work then down then work then down in the 1300 to 1200 rpm range. (only happens when warn engine light is on). Not loosing coolant or oil. Just had oil filter replaced b4 pm due to low oil psi. About 2000 miles till pm. I think I'm about a gallon over on oil but has not gone down. Would that cause it? Also on the oil filter, the oil psi only reached 38 or so and when close to an oil change I need to get it replaced b4 getting down close to 20. Also, is the only time the engine shuts off while driving when the warn engine and triangle are flashing and when solid it's less of a problem? Side note, I never had these problems in a Freightliner.

If it isn't sucking gallons of oil...it may be your EGR valve. When turbos go, and you see smoke...they drink a lot of oil. Since it isn't losing coolant, it's not your EGR cooler. The surging may be when the EGR opens and tries to pump exhaust into the intake, which causes a little drop in boost pressure, then the exhaust sensor shows the exhaust readings are wrong, and it tries to adjust itself. Do you have a Cummins or a Maxxfarce?

If it's a Cummins, 38 is good oil pressure. Mine running down the road at highway speeds is in the 20's to maybe 30.

As far as shutting down, the red stop sign with the "!" inside it will come on when it shuts down. The yellow engine light and the triangle are just a warning that there is something out of the computer's expected operating parameters. The Maxxfarces have the engine light come on and stay on for days or weeks. I get the upside down triangle once in a while when I rush to start and an ABS sensor misses it's test.

Is there any info code when the light comes on in the amber lcd screen under your mileage?

2010 cummins. I dont have the stop engine light or it's never come on. All mine does is the yellow triangle stays on and the warn engine flashes. Then truck starts to lose power then justs shuts off, all while on the highway, I'm new to the prostar so I thought it was because I was a gallon low on oil. So I put a gallon in and it runs. Now I think it's the low oil pressure and when I add oil it raises the pressure. Did not work this time and had to get oil filter changed and now I'm over on oil. Not good. No info code. Was told the oil sensor was high so it shuts down with just a little oil loss. Then told that was not correct. Got near 20 psi oil pressure and truck shut off going up grade. Fixed that and now this. And the turbo is not leaking oil. How do I get it to show a code? And how quickly do I need to get this fixed if it's the egr valve ( which sounds most likely)? Have another 2000 miles to get to gp. Thanks SS for the quick reply and good info.

Unlike Freightliner' who's Series 60 would give you a 2 digit flash code....International gives you a larger code...for which you need a manual, and a rocket science degree to decode. Or a laptop with the engine software and the password for the truck. To see the codes, start with your key off. Turn the key to on(w/o starting) wait 4 or 5 seconds then press and hold the cruise on button while you press the resume button. Then release. Your dash cluster will go into test mode just like when you first turn on the key...then in the lcd screen it'll give you the fault codes...active codes first, then stored codes from previous faults...without the manual or the special software(and the plug that hooks into the truck) it's no longer something the driver can figure out. I guess the mechanics were getting tired of drivers knowing what was actually wrong with their trucks and could tell them what to fix...so now you have to take their word for it because without a lot of money, not everyone has access to a simple way to read the faults.

As for if it is safe to drive, I would call Tommy. With all the extra plumbing and sensors and fancy doodads on these high tech garden tillers...I would let the person with a desk and a title make those kinds of decisions. But I would ask if it needs to be run thru Fleetnet and get it looked at asap or if it is something that can wait. If it's shutting itself off, that is a self preservation system so it doesn't do damage, but it also means something serious is going on. If you're nearing 400k miles, your DPF may be full. I know the Cummins Prostars at Crete had some issues between 375-400k so International wanted them back in trade by then. I think here they want the DPF's serviced by then.

Mine blowes a lot of smoke sometimes when it's doing a passive regen(I guess it's a regen, the regen light isn't on but if you get into stop and go traffic when it's doing it...the exhaust temp light comes on...then when you take off again you crop dust the traffic behind you)

    Ralph4159 Thanks this.

Last time I talked to Tommy he thought the warn engine was the truck wanting to do a regen.
