I used to do that as a company driver. So many times the broker would say tarps required but most of the time after I call the Receiver they would say no tarps needed.

Shipper in AR used to pull that one. They'd roll and spread the tarps for you, but didn't allow you to get on the catwalk or trailer - I could finish up 90% of it from the ground - but you'd have to exit and park on the road to finish up.

I assume some moron fell off their trailer, sued them and won - thus ruining it for the rest of the world - instead of admitting their own mistake and moving on.

Lol. We just have different problems. Rarely do they involve being treated like an idiot or a child - that I do not miss from reefer days.

I have noticed in the past year as a lazy door swinger that I have been treated very well. I can’t count how many times I have heard “Oh thank god you speak English”. People are appreciating clear, articulate talk. Now depending on the area, it may not matter and I give the crap right back to them or straight up just tell them not to talk to me that way. Most ignorant people are weak and getting back at them fixes their attitude real quick.

Or maybe they look down and see denim and leather instead of cotton and sandals. I dunno.

Once had a conversation that sorta went like this.
This was a some what complicated load. Would require weather protection.
Had loaded at this place before, just not for this”new broker”

They used to have people finish tarping out the back gate, on a county road. Had wide shoulder areas, plus the road was quite wide. Was not bad, rarely has any traffic, mostly the occasional trucks from the shipper. Mostly it was a space issue. Just didn’t have room for every one.

Me: Not seeing the tarp fees in the rate con.
Broker: The rate is all in, it has an extra $100.0 for tarps.
Me: The rate con needs to have each line item as a separate line.
Broker: We don’t really do that, it takes to long for processing.
Me: I need the rate con to have each item as a separate line.
Broker: well we don’t waste our time with that.
Me: OK, well thanks for wasting my time. Moving on, good day.
    Broker: What?
    Me: press end.

I had to tarp rocks one time. Yes, rocks. Picked them up in Indiana going back to PA. Shipper said I couldn't tarp on the property and had to do it on the street. I said ok whatever. This was at 3:20 pm they left at 3:30 so needless to say it got tarped on their property. #### them

If I can't tarp on your property I ain't tarping it. If you don't have someplace out of the wind to tarp your #### I ain't tarping your ####. Tarping lumber in the wind is less than enjoyable.

I always said, "OK, take care, see you later." Then I'd go make my delivery without tarping.
If no one was there when I made the delivery, I'd take the rolled/folded tarps and lay them on the ground beside the trailer as if I'd just untarped and rolled/folded the tarps.
If someone was there and asked why the load isn't tarped, I'd say I untarped at the truckstop just before arriving here.
    Never had any problems.
