Can I ask why the need or desire for a 10'1" spread on a 53' reefer?

I don't see a practical use for that trailer.. or more generally 53' van with the 10-1 spread. Makes a lot more sense if you are always running out of weight and could use a 48' instead. Dodge the 40' kpra rule and also easy to load it to 80k and have all your axles good

Hold on folks, I had a 10 foot spread on mine, the best useful is the 40K weight capacity back there 20K per axle. Louisana scales be damed, they see nothing but a alligator under there. he he he.

I was a 48, I did not get to take her into California because there were certain drivers higher in senority who were very favored as golden boys from the halls of dispatch who got to run California to Baltimore loads of container chassis stacked yea high on their 48's

I spent just about a number of years working with 48's and shorter in flatbedding. I considered it a joy.

My education about california Kingpin law came later. 53 foot flats to me have been a little bit of a ... monster with possibilities. But I hope that if you can get a 48 10 foot spread into california and for them not to complain and out, you have to be good to go. I see a 53 inside cali a liability. I don't want it.

We used to do a lot of LTL Reefer freight. The spread was really
nice for picking up an extra pallet and needing the #40,000
capacity on the back. Otherwise would have to unload and
reload most of the load to get the weight forward.

If you do mostly full load on\full load off freight you
won't gain as much. Spread rides nicer......also tends to
scrub tires when turning......if you get the "two axle dump"
system you can eliminate some of that.

To me it is 6 of one and half a dozen the other on a reefer
trailer. On a stepdeck trailer it is almost a necessity.
