Been very slow for me too this week. Planner told me Monday being Memorial Day kinda screwed up things for terminal outbounds the rest of the week. A little background-- my truck broke down in Detroit and they said a week to fix it. So I put it in their yard a couple days early and rented a Penske truck and took a load home to northern California and stayed home for 2 weeks. Got reloaded back to Detroit and Penske truck broke down in Wyoming so sat there for several hours waiting for the tow truck driver to bring me a new bobtail so that put me into Detroit about 9 hours late which pushed my unload to the next morning (reloads are at night). It was OK because I spent the day swapping the Penske truck for my truck and the friendly Peterbilt guys followed me up to the Penske place to drop off the rental and gave me a ride back to the PB yard where my truck was sitting. Then corporate said they were swamped with paperwork and couldn't get my insurance turned on for my truck. So lost an opportunity to get reloaded Wednesday night. Asked about Thursday night, his keywords were "if it doesn't fill tonite, it will tomorrow night"... which just means if they are a few pallets short from filling the trailer they will not dispatch it which translates to another day of sitting around. \\

So I called the agent and tried to book a load, we talked about 10 or so loads, each one I said 'I like it, book it' even though they were ungodly cheap, and every time he called me back the load was already gone. That is a sign of how desperate and hungry the owner operator population was on Friday morning in the Detroit area. I often wonder if Swift planners are looking at the same load boards to book their trucks and softens the market. But I finally got a short 700 mile run over the weekend and it meets my daily revenue numbers by a few bucks plus luckily.

That is exactly why I stay a company driver.

Too many headaches to count as a L/O or O/O.
    Too much stress.

I like making a little less but with more time of my own, and letting the company find me loads.
There were no loads in Columbus, so I am being repositioned down to Georgia because freight is better there right now. Swift will send me where they need me most.
But how many O/O or L/O people would deadhead nearly 700 miles on their own dime?
Being company, it is on their dime to get me to a better place. I like that.
I get paid the miles regardless.

If we're in a dead freight zone, Swift will do an mt trailer reposition to move us to where the freight is - paid at the mt mile rate.

    A21CAV and Moosetek13 Thank this.

    Thank you.
    I didn't know that.

You have given me one less reason not to move in that direction.

    Yep.
Had that done once. Reposition from Fontana, a dead zone to PHX then wanted me to DH another 180 miles and pick up beer load and take to Laredo, another dead zone, worse than Fontana. Declined that little move and then in about 2 hours was send a load from San Bernadino to Houston.

Now here at the J in Tooele, UT. Got some good news finally. My load at MOM will be ready in the morning so can get it to Los Lunas on Monday morning and get my next one out of ALBQ and down to Roanoke by Tuesday morning. Now if just Lancaster does not play any games(which they are good for) I might just be able to get something nice out of that area that I can drop Wednesday. Do not mention Command. My luck out of there with them as been less than 400 miles for one day. They did offer me one last Friday, DH 375 miles to pick up a 43K load of bottles and take to FL, but it delivered in 7 days which would not have helped this check and after all said and done, would have paid about $1.05/mi

Moose , my best reposition as an owner was from Colorado Springs to OKC to take an empty trailer to Hobby Lobby . Of course I needed an empty for my next load and guess where the empty trailer solution sent me. I had gotten as far as the gate house when I got the message , made a u turn and went back in and hooked the same trailer for a Command load to Florida . I was paid loaded miles for the move as well .

Some of it sounds like comic book humor.
I can just imagine the money and time wasted by it.

I'll stop just short of my destination, because there is no real reason to actually go to the address of the pick up/delivery. It would just waste my time and tie up a customer's gate and security people for no good reason.
Then I'll call the weekend person to do my empty call for me, to show that I am in the area.
Then they will probably give me some guff about not being at the address, and we'll get into it about this being just a repositioning of equipment and I don't really need to be at the exact address to be here.
I've gone through this before, but I usually end up winning the argument.

I just wish it wasn't on a Sunday. With my own DM it would be very simple.
Maybe I'll get lucky and not get a simple monkey when I call.

I'm sure glad I'm on a first name basis with the ECT guys at my terminal. I never have issues with them and they're always helpful..unlike most in Swift.

Doing a14 at the Memphis Terminal. Dropped my tcall earlier today and was pleasantly surprised that the team bringing in the tcall I was picking up for Lake Charles didn't mess around and got it here on time. I checked with Houston a couple times on the way up from LA to see if they were steady rolling for Memphis.

Leaving way early in the morning to get down through Jackson MS before those people get out of bed. I swear they have an Idiot Driver factory there.

Will start hunting for 400-600 mile hops into TX tomorrow to stay near Houston as I absolutly want to finish my last load Thursday and then head for the house.

    Never say never!

Last time I screwed up and took a load to Reno (Swift has screwed me EVERY TIME I've been to Reno) I DHed to Lathrop and got a load out within 2 hours of asking a planner to help me out.
