I don't think that is what happened.
It was probably my last home time with the girls. We went to Boondocks, remember?
All those people, and the extreme cold out there in the race cars. We did it over and over again.
And I caught a cold.
Nothing to do with bare feet in the shower.
And 3 days in to it and I am nearly well again. My immune system just needed a pick-me-up.
I don't think I've ever gone 4 years without 1 or 2 colds or a flu. This was a record for me. It is usually every 2 years or so, and it is usually much worse than this time.
This time I could actually keep working through it.

Second winter in a row without a flu shot and no flu. I had a little bit of a sore throat runny nose a while back but kept bundled up and plugged my nose up with tissues to prevent the constant drip. The only time I got sick was from some spaghetti I ate, food poisoning i think. Involuntary exploding puke coming out of both ends lol regardless of clothing on or off.
Crusader66 Thanks this. -
Oh, never a flu shot.
Those things can kill you.
LOL
But I never do get one, never have.
And I have not gotten the flue anywhere near the times others have, when they have taken it.
All scare tactics to let your own immune system get too lazy, because 'they' are afraid.
Everyone seems SO afraid of every little thing these days, don't they?
It was never an issue when I was a kid, 40 or 50 years ago.
You got sick and you got better, sometimes not. But most times, yes.
Now everyone is SO determined that no germ will touch any part of their body because they might get sick.Crusader66 and scottied67 Thank this. -
All better today.
Delivered my load in WI at the Target DC, found a nice clean mt and on my way to my next load in IL.
About 150 miles empty and 50 loaded, t-calling at Manteno. It doesn't pick up until 1500 tomorrow and it is a live load, but there was a message from the planner that the load had an extra $50 added to it.
I'm at the Love's in, I don't really know. Just south of Milwaukee, though. I was surprised to find any parking at nearly 1830, but there were several spots to choose from. The Love's and Pilot have usually been full by that time.
I made it with 8 minutes left on my 11, so cutting it a bit close today. -
Oakcreek, WI? Ryan Rd- a Starbucks across the street next to the Pilot?Moosetek13 Thanks this.

Not to hijack the thread but I'm convinced that the flu shot is a giant hoax. Everyone I know that gets one, gets sick. I've never gotten one and haven't been truly nasty sick in years
Crusader66, FerrissWheel and JOHNQPUBLIC Thank this. -
I never get it either, and I haven't had the flu in many years.
It is just a way for some company to make a lot of money at everyone's expense.
But people buy into it thinking they will be 'safer'.FerrissWheel, JOHNQPUBLIC and Rugerfan Thank this. -
Many years ago when I was in the Army we were forced to get flu shots every year. I was 18-21 years old during this time period and was sick every time soon after. Vowed I would never get the shot again. I'm 49 and haven't.
I have only been really sick 2 times to the degree I recall those times specifically. Other than that, nothing except the sniffles here and there and most of the time not even that.Crusader66, FerrissWheel and Rugerfan Thank this. -
Vegas leave in the morning as soon as they dig up a load. I'm in a much better mood now that I am recharged. Ready to run the wheels off again.
But the thing with the flu shot, is simple. Each year a new flu shot is made. They use the most popular strains of influenza from the previous year. The most obvious problem with this, is the simple fact that virus cells particularly adapt and mutate really freaking fast. Which generally means whatever strain of the flu you happen to get will just be an entirely different strain than is even in the vaccine.
Medical experts normally cite the fact that it takes 2 weeks to develop immunity to the flu strains in the vaccine, as the reason some people still get sick shortly after. Or course crap quality control could easily give you the flu as well. If they injected someone with still active virus.
But another thing to consider, even if it's dormant, your immune system still has to use up its resources to clean out the forigen material. So your overall immunity can take a slight dip for the moment your body is cleaning up something else.
Ive never had a flu vaccine either. The family remedy for flu was always whiskey and rest.JOHNQPUBLIC, Moosetek13 and Crusader66 Thank this.
