coulda made Lubbock, TX tonight @ my last fuel stop on this load, but the snow started getting nasty out and I made a "Safe by choice not by chance" call and parked her for the night. I've driven in worse, but why chance it.. that and loads not due till the 27th..
Gonna go make wnow angels in the diesel fuel infused snow..
Merry xmas all! -
Matter of fact, I do.
Too bad it doesn't work. The burner needs replacing.
Trouble is, it was a 2 week shipment when I got the tranny fixed and I didn't feel like waiting another week.
In Denver they said a B-service would take 24 hours, anything else would be at least 48. So I never mentioned the heater. Heck, for all I know they would have to order the part as well.
You would think, with winter setting in, that the shops would stock up on heater parts. Go figure.
I am so sick of having this truck in the shop!!!!
I just want to stay on the road for a while, you know?
And besides, with temps being in the single to low 10 digits I need to keep the engine running anyway. -
Plus, none of the trucks I have had has had a decently working Wabasto.
I have never gotten one to work right. It either gets hotter and hotter until I turn it off, or it doesn't work at all.
And every one has required manual turn on/off, because the 'auto' settings never work.
And I am not about to sleep until I get sweating so much I have to turn it off, only to freeze so much I have to turn it on again - and so on through the night.
And, I am not going to spend even more time in the shops trying to fix them.
This one was supposedly 'fixed' once.
It worked for one night, then broke again. -
So at what point does swift allow us to idle all night to keep the fuel from gelling?
my bunk heater sweats me out, and I never idle.. but lately I have been waking up to the temps in the teens and ¼" thick ice on the truck. Volts were low when I started up this morning, and wouldn't rise for a bit.. maybe they froze a lil.. hmmm, maybe I should idle tonight ?? -
Im having the same issues with that wabasto heater. Tried to get some heater instructions while in laredo but they didn't have one but got one in Memphis days later and read the manual several times and still can't get that piece of crap to work correctly. Now I just sleep with it off and run the motor when it's 32degs or below.

Heth,AR, delivering at Sams Club in Desoto,TX tomorrow. Somehow even after being in the shop at Gary a day then the dealer in Davenport I'm going to be just shy of 3k miles and possibly run into issues with my 70 so not a bad holiday week after all, I thought it was going to suck.
As far as idling, the notice in the Gary shop says idle continuously if the temp is below 15 deg and if its below 30 to idle for 2 hours every 5-6 hours. -
Ya, 2 hours every...
Not that I am going to adjust my sleep scedule for that!
If I turn on the engine to provide heat for sleeping and to prevent gelling, it will not be turned off until it is time to wake up.
Same goes for cooling for high temps in the summer.
Nearly every month I am told I have a high idle time, and try to get it down.
In the end, I will do what I need to do to both stay comfortable and get the load there safely on time.
A few gallons of fuel not withstanding. -
Blue: TMI!!
Scottie: Stop egging him on!
I've met both of you in person and it ain't a pretty image. WHO HAS MY BRAIN BLEACH?!?
After tomorrow's load, I'll be taking a week off.
