Somewhere small in KS.
I pick up a load in the morning headed for MO, and one from there to PA.
The last load was really fun.
I had a 0800 appt to pick up, but they didn't show up until 0900. They didn't start loading me until almost 0930.
45k+ of bulk potatoes.
I didn't get on the road until after 1100, and had until 1700 to get 430 miles. Wasn't going to happen.
Then the trailer blew an air line, and I was sitting for nearly 6 hours for that to be fixed.
Rescheduled delivery for today at 1300, but when I got there they were not ready for my type of potatoes. So I waited a couple more hours before unloading.
That load was a Mac22 from the start.
And I'm adhering to Swift's new desire for us to log on-duty time 'just the right way', just to see what it does.
So the 1.5 hours waiting to start getting loaded, the loading time, the time waiting for the trailer repair, the time waiting for 'my type of potatoes' and unloading time - all of it is on my 70.
I'm going to burn as much time as I can, and take 34's as often as possible - just to do my own part to show Swift that they don't have enough trucks on the road.
I'll eat the cost, for a time. But I think Swift will eat a lot more if enough of us do it.
The only way to fight fire, is to fight with 'a smarter' fire.
The way I see it... Swift would have to have at least 10-15% more trucks deployed if we all held to these rules. And that would produce a lot more than a 10-15% increase in operating costs.
Now, I've got 42:43 left on my 70, with 5 days until I start rolling hours back in - and the first day was less than 4 hours.
My next 2 loads are 2 live loads and 1 live unload. I'll be out of hours before more roll in, I think.
And I don't think I've taken more than 2 34's in the past 2 years because I plan my time so I don't have to.
But the way Swift (or, well, DOT) wants me to log on-duty hours makes it impossible.scottied67 Thanks this.
