I was coming back to Canada and at the Windsor border crossing, the border patrol officer (or whatever you call them), asked for my cell phone. What would they need our number for? I relectantly gave him my number because I didn't want any trouble and I just wanted to be back in Canada and at my home. But can they search anonymously my phone in the background using my cell phone number? Can they track what messages and phone calls I send or receive? Can they anonymously see my phone's gallery? Or am I just being paranoid or overreacting?
Got asked for my number at Windsor

There is a posting inside the offices, all visitors or citizens must provide contact info. It’s for contact tracing if you test positive for SARS cov2.
