Yes, welfare check, they want to make sure that no one committed suicide because of the depressing job market. Too many are using this as a job to save them, a last chance.
Well, I think that they expect to see 4% return of a viable employee from the applications they get to this point. 4% of all applicants seem to make it.

Well I got offered employment. I have a driver number and a gas card. Now I play the waiting game. I’ll say one good thing I liked was orientation was done and over in a week. Including the flat bed securement. One thing I don’t like is I am not sure when I’ll get a trainer and now I’m waiting for anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks. So far I would recommend this company, with contingency’.

    austinmike and Lonesome Thank this.

Haha dude it wasn’t that type of welfare check, it was literally how many people in your family use food stamps types of questions. But more intrusive.

    austinmike and Lonesome Thank this.

I’m assuming they ask so they can get more tax incentives? I have no idea it was weird.

    austinmike and 77fib77 Thank this.

my mind thinks they have actuaries that have statistics of how people on stamps have different habits.

I hope you get a trainer sooner than later. Do they give you food money? Or are you just burning cash while your sitting?

I personally am burning cash because I am not staying at their motel. My roommate was a douchebag and was on the phone with his girl friend til 3 in the morning. Who the heck can even talk on the phone for 9 hours! They do provide food but I’m not eating it because I’m not at the hotel. I was very tempted to go back home right after orientation but it’s about an 8 hour drive and there’s a slight chance I could get a trainer fast.

yeah I really don’t know why they asked about all the government assistance stuff, it has to be something like habits or whatever

austinmike, Lonesome and 77fib77 Thank this.

When I worked for Western back in 2009, I had my own room. Flatbed training wasn't 2 to 3 days. Orientation back then was done in 3 days if I remember right. One thing I can say must be different now is how they run. Back then it was paper logs and they would push you to run illegal. I am sure they can't do much of that now with the ELD. I want to say .40cpm is what I was making back then, with experience. So, pay scale hasn't gone up much if that is the case. It is what you make of it though. I am sure you can get your experience there enough to go with someone else if you choose to. I would bet the pandemic impacted a lot of things there too though just like it has just about everywhere else.

If they can get a heart beat to move a load for $.40 a mile, why offer $.60. Helps the company's bottom line. If the driver bails after a month or two, there is always another heart beat sitting there waiting to take their turn.
