Most companies will do this because they can not trust the driver. Just about all gasoline companies will do this because they know the driver is thinking about the other job and could care less about the one you're about to leave. It's pretty normal.

All my trucking jobs I had put a 2 weeks or a week notices. Even made a resignation letter for schneider and my manager said I'm welcome back anytime. Never got screw with. Maybe it's my work ethic

It likely says more about the company, than it does the driver. I too believe in giving notice. At least you know that you have done the right thing.

I put 2 week notice in and figured I be canned immediately. Last day is today. Ran hard whole time. When I ran dads trucks any new driver that said he needed 2 weeks bc previous job I respected and waited eventhough I needed driver right now.

Yea I know I did the right thing and my new company is working with me. Just have to wait a few more days to get the truck ready. New paint and dress up.
