I have received warning twice in the last 6 weeks for getting into the center lane to avoid on ramp traffic. So now I guess they get to drive on the shoulder, CHP says its up to them to merge, and they are now writting 450.00 dollar tickets for moving over

Can you provide the California traffic code text that says when/where this is a ticketable offense?

It's amazing how many times I see car drivers wait until the end of the merge before they even check their mirrors. Their on their own. Unless I can safely and legally move over I'm maintaining my lane and speed. Period.

2005 or 2006, don't remember, I got pulled over in the Cal. scale by Sacramento on I-80, "for failing to allow a car to merge" .
no ticket just a lecture on being rude and aggressive for not slowing down so the woman ,on the phone and not looking, could get over.
now they've changed their tune to "don't move over? lol

What s even worse is when another driver trucker or 4 wheeler sits there and paces you when you move over to let them on, and you re trying to get back over

If I can move left without impeding or slowing down traffic in the left lane, then I will. Otherwise I maintain my lane and my speed. It's amazing how simply doing the speed limit and safely maintaining your lane angers some people that think they're entitled to merge.

I always assume everyone around me is as dumb as a box of rocks and drive accordingly. Every situation is different no matter what the law is. I prefer to keep my fenders from being caved in on my steers no matter who is right.

This. Hold your lane and your speed.

It's amazing how many merging drivers end up braking and getting behind me when they could have just used that skinny pedal on the right and gone on ahead with no problems at all.

I’ll see what’s happening, back off and flash you/radio you to come over. Traffic merges, we get situated again, carry on.

But not everyone is me, so -

You just have to back off - even cruise at 55 around multiple exits, to allow rapid reduction in speed quickly if dummy jumps out.

It’s honorable that you decelerate for Crete without whining. It’s the smart option.

I’m surprised at a lot of answers here. Regardless of the law, or how dumb they are, I consider my job to include ensuring ALL other dummies go home to their families, and I avoid the paperwork. It’s worked for me for 2 million miles and 14 years.

There’s only a very small percentage of accidents that are TRULY non-preventable.
