Can someone recommend a good gps with hazmat routing?. The navigation in the Qualcomm does not have a hazmat route so I have to figure out on my own haw to go. Don’t take too many hazmat loads but when I do I usually run into a route restriction.

Garmin truck GPS has it on the diz, but you have to use the icon an accept category. Still not reliable so you'll need to use other means and watch for HC posting into towns/city.

I have Co-Pilot on my smartphone. It has variables that can be put in....including types of haz-mat carried. So far it's worked well for me.....far better than the navigo on the truck's computer (Qualcomm or People-net).

    sidrambill Thanks this.

My Rand McNally 740 does a very good job routing me. I only haul HazMat.

You should save this link on your phone. It's the OFFICIAL word on HazMat routing around the country, by state. It's not very easy to use but it offers the HM restrictions for each state as a PDF, map, Excel spreadsheet National HazMat Route Registry

On the RM go into the Truck Info screen, select what class of HazMat you are hauling Class 1-9, or none and it will calculate a legal route. Just beware there are a few places the RM is convinced there is a HM restriction, and their is no restriction. I-285 on the north side of Atalnta where I-85 meets I-285 has no HM restriction, but the RM issues HM route violation warnings. And I have found at least 1 location where there is a HM restriction but the RM doesn't know about it.

The RM can also accept your entries for truck length, truck width, gross weight, truck height and calculate a route.

The Qualcomm navigation function is very, very poor, HazMat or non-HM

Whatever way you choose, don't rely on it 100%. My RM kept me going thru San Angelo, instead of the loop for HM. It wouldn't shut up (make a left turn... make a left turn...). It's back in the box. I can read road signs and decide on my own. Sheesh...

Co-Pilot is the best! Using it for 5 years now on phone. My truck has it on the built in navigation also. Can't say enough good about it.
