i dont believe much of anything i'm told in orientation. the guy who does our log classes, says that in the old red print log books we had, that the pages should be used in order, because the bar code at the top told the computer what page number it was. and if you skipped a page, the scanner would reject the log.

yeah....BULL......$#!T....the bar code is exactly the same....duh.

Well. Interestingly, according to our fleet manager it is not Swift policy. Now, there has been media coverage that the DOT is supporting a ban on GPS usage claiming that it's as distracting as texting on your cell phone.

If so........then they need to stop looking at their radar readouts because that's distracting them. lol

picking your nose is a distraction. Tuning your radio is a distraction. Picking your butt is a distraction. Grabbing the mic to say "i aint got no panties on" is a distraction. Beaver hunting is a distraction. there isnt one driver who always has 2 hands on the wheel, looking in their mirrors every 10 seconds, doing the speed limit, running legal and making sure they have enough distance between them and the car in front of them going down the interstate at 65mph...and driving totally...100% without distraction.

Sorry Rug but my sides are hurting!!!
    LOL
Please do not ask Hubby that question!!! You will never hear the end of it. Specially when "routing" tried to take him under a 13ft bridge, took him thru 2 an half hour detour (not paid), told him to go right..drop was to left, almost sent him 5 miles up a dirt road (one lane) shipper was on the left after the RR tracks NOT an additional 5 miles up the road..on a n dark stormy night,an the list goes on. lol

Speaking of their routing, I believe some of those routes were written by evil truck drivers using the 'maptuit feedback' macro.
    Examples:
Deliver to a store just off the interstate. Request directions, says go about a mile and a half turn down this street. OK, it's residential, skinny little streets, my truck takes the whole lane, tight turns barely staying off people's lawns. Get back out of there after wasting half an hour, use GPS's search tool, type in Best Buy-directs me right to it. Afterward I sent in the correct routing using the same maptuit feedback.

Today and many many other times have followed the company route to a T and get lost. So I send in for directions. Directions invariably want to route in from some other highway. All the rights are lefts, lefts- rights. I have to wonder if the driver who wrote it up was having fun, found a shortcut, or did the planner change the route since that original driver used to go to that shipper/receiver?

ok...scottie...directions thru the qualcomm are just like using a GPS.....use common sense. I've been there before.....set up in a LH turn lane, then i notice there are nothing but houses, and i'm going thru residential....i'll wait till the light starts to change yellow, MAKE SURE nobody is running a yellow light...and continue straight. but again, you are paid to make the right judgment call in situations like that. Say you went down there, and the directions told you....and some kid runs out into the street chasin' a ball...and you hit em. Guess what.......PREVENTABLE. not to mention your life is over, cause you know the family will come after everything you got.....everything your friends have...and everything your family has ever had, even if they're pushing up daisys.

Best thing to do when within an hour to a half hour out call! Many of the shippers etc have automated direction recordings that work great!
I am convinced that the Qualcom is an evil entity that lies in wait for you to relax and then it attacks rofl.
