Orientation went great today at Greater O. Got there and everyone was pleasant and said hi and asked if I'd been helped. Huge difference from what I'm used to. Which is "look the other way and try not to make eye contact with anyone that walks in". Zipped over to take a drug test, in and out of there, then to take a physical. I'm 6'2" and 175 lbs so I got to skip the sleep apnea test. Kind of a funny thing during the physical agility test. I was told to pull a little handle thing connected to the wall that had a digital meter to test my pull strength. Was told the number had to get over I think it was 125. Well I pulled and yanked the thing off the wall. The nurse was luckily very nice and just said "ok. Wow. Well you passed". Haha went back did a road test. Luckily it was in a truck I had just come out of with my previous employer so I was comfortable with the set up. And even more lucky for me, they set you up on a 3 way intersection with a pretty tight right hander. I creeped up to the line from far back to let my presence known, and as luck would have it a cop who knew what was up was next in line to my right, so he stopped super far back and gave me the room to swoop out. Easy peasy. Got back had lunch waiting for me that I ordered previously. Went over some videos some had quizzes some didn't. None of them a big deal as far as difficulty. I took a small hazmat quiz, which is probably 20 questions. I got em all right first try and she was impressed, but I've had my hazmat endorsement for years and it's nothing too daunting, even without. Jetted out of there about 4 and I go back tomorrow morning at 8:30 to go over payroll stuff, benefits, get a run down on Qualcomm and talk to the lead dispatcher and check out the shop. Then I get my truck packed up and head out with a load. So far so good, everyone is super nice and says hi walking around. Seems like a nice laid back atmosphere. I'll update more tomorrow evening as events unfold.
