This is why most drivers dont do the 8/2 split, it's confusing.
You have to be in sleeper, LOG as sb NOT log off duty for 8 hours. And the remaining of your 14 will come back after 8 hours.
Start 0500
End 1500
Remaining on 14: 4 hours
Sb.
*hours still count down to negative*
After 8 hours sb : 4 hours return, pause on clock ready to go.

I have been trying to follow this myself and I am confused as well. I am a rookie who does paper logs.
From what I understand is your day starts at 00:00 and ends at 14:00? Providing you started with 10 hrs off straight?
So I start at 00:00 and do pretrip OD not driving, Drive from 00:15 till 05:45. Go on duty not driving till 06:00. Go sleeper till 09:00. Drive till 09:45 take break till 10:00. Then drive till 13:30. Then post trip till 13:45. Am I legal???
What would have happened if I would have been at the dock in the sleeper for another hour, would this have thrown me over my 14 hours?
Sorry for hi jacking into your post. -
You're right, once u start ur clock at 0000 you got till 1400 to work. So if you stay at the dock for another hour and off duty or sb at 1445 instead you're in violation.
What we're talking about is 8/2 split. Try not to sweat about it, you probably never do 8/2 -
NO! That is wrong, it does NOT start again. The clock starts again once you change duty status.
Real world case. I hit the sleeper with 1:19 remaining on the 14 last night. The 14 continued to count down and expire while I slept. As soon as the sleeper time hit 8:00 the 1:19 reappeared. The 1:19 is STILL there now after 9:13 in the sleeper.
The clock WILL NOT start again until I change status OR it hits 10 hours sleeper time in which case it will reset to the full 14.
Now at 9:32 sleeper time the 14 STILL shows 1:19 remaining.
The clock is stopped! And TA has left the building....

UPDATE!!! I now have 9:54 in the sleeper and my 14 hour clock still shows 1:19 remaining. 6 more minutes and the 14 will reset to full 14.
Notice the clock did not start again when hitting 8:01 sleeper time.
TA (tripped and fell in the stairway and was unconscious but now I've really left the building)
