Exactly right. When I started driving I hauled a lot of lumber. That was long enough ago that we still tied down with cables.
An old timer told me "It takes less time to throw another couple of straps than it does to try to explain to some cop why you didn't".
We haul quite a bit of S4S pine and doug fir. That stuff will move if you sneeze at it.
If you get your own trailer try having winch to winch tie downs. It doesn't really add a lot to the weight of the trailer and being able to tighten down from both ends of a strap can make a big difference in how stuff rides.

You can never over strap. I had 17 straps on a 25k load of pipe and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

I would prefer not to either but there is no other place to secure to on this trailer.

I guess I should have put some from each side on each section. I am just learning, I was thinking that after I loaded. I learn from each load on how to do things better and organization is something that takes time I find I am rushing to much.
Like when I got dispatched for this it was 1300 hrs I waz an hr away and told to hurry its Friday everyone wants to go home.

D.Tibbitt and Cat sdp Thank this.

Do you mean hook to the underside of the trailer or hook to the rubrail differently?

Hook to the rub rail differently. I try to avoid hooking to the rub rail if possible but if I do I do the "DOT wrap".

Running the strap outside the rail, underneath, then hooking it on the inside of the rail
