    Oh God, please....

First in many atlases there is a section in the front that is about restricted roads. Rand Mcnally's trucker's atlas has it - I'm looking at it right now.

Second your company should be able to assist you in planning the route - I think they are required to do that for you.

Third the link to the National HM Registry's info is this ----> http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/sites/fmcs...us_Materials_Route_Registry_9-28-2009_508.pdf

It is a PDF file so you can download it, get it printed if you want but keep it. AND also you may notice the date, 2009, so be forewarned that it may be a bit out of date.

Fourth is simple, always use the three digit interstates around the cities but there are exceptions (an exception is I-696 here in the Detroit area - nothing explosive or flammable allowed between US-24 and I -94). Be careful with bridges and forget tunnels.

Doesn't matter if you are unloaded. Until tank is washed out it stays placarded because of the residue. Still have to stop at RR tracks

All I see is restricted roads to all motor carriers, this is separate from hm restricted routes. For example, the atlas shows only 2 roads restricted to motor carriers in Indiana, and neither is i65 or i70 through Indy. The national hm registry, however, lists these 2 routes as restricted.
Thanks for the links guys, I am going to print it off.
Man, good luck running hm in California! There are 20 pages of restricted roads.

    OP

What areas would you be running? I'm sure these fine folks would help you out in your specific area. Also what are you dragging behind ? Profile is useless if you want direct help.

You are welcome. But keep your head on a swivel, obviously read road signs, This is only a tool.

Tunnels - you are allowed most of the time unless you are carrying Bulk, then your Placards would have a UN number on the in the middle. Explosives are a different also.

Make sure you have a Placard on all four sides of your trailer.

Cities - Most post that if you carry HM that you use the outer loops, You will see HM/HC signs denoting this.

MCRA - Information in the front on HazMat.

Colorado - They do have HazMat routes - http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellit...goBlobs&blobwhere=1251847715361&ssbinary=true

Verify your placard's with your paperwork.

Keep your paperwork in your door pocket or on the driver seat when not in vehicle. Also do when in sleeper in case of emergency.

Stop at all RR crossings, unless that crossing is posted out of action or a dead crossing.

DO not stop within 50' of a roadway.

Your company may have a safety HazMat call in once you pick up. Most will give you a route, but BE AWARE, sometimes the routes do not follow HM/HC routes. It is up to you to use your eyes and stay on approved HM/HC routes.
