After 8 weeks of school, I took my test and got my CDL last week. I've been talking with ome of the companies that came out to my school and I'm going to be going to their orientation this week. They are a flatbed company. Their facility is a little over an hour away from my house and I don't want to burn that much gas in my personal vehicle so I'll be staying at a hotel (I'll be heading there later tonight). I've heard good things about this company so I really hope it goes well.

Can anyone give me an idea on what I should expect? Things to look out for? Things I should do/not do? Anything I should pack with me besides the usual? Thanks in advance!

Depends on which company you're posting about.

Most orientations start early, like 7 am, as in, be in hotel lobby by 6 am all freshened up. Lots of videos, usually wee-wee test and physical day 1. Most are 3 days long. President of the co. will stop in and thank you for hiring on and make you feel like you will retire there ! ! You having your car there will help. You may or may not get a truck assignment when orientation ends. I've been to orientations with 2 new hires or 30 new hires. Depends on size of co. You may a private hotel room or bunk in with someone. Normally, lunch is on the co. Bring all your stuff in case you truck out. Also, a blank check if you want to do direct deposit for pay. Try to travel light, makes it much easier to move from hotel-truck or truck-truck etc. Have fun, give us daily updates....

If you are going to get a physical OR don't know either way I suggest not having any coffee and fast starting about 6 PM the day before. That's about all I can add that has not already been brought up.

Company is PGT and orientation is in Blairsville PA. Hotel provides breakfast and company provides lunch and dinner. I'm a new driver with a fresh CDL so I expect to be with a trainer for a while before having a truck assigned. I hope to get a private room in the hotel but I'm expecting to have to share a room. Hotel is a Hampton Inn so should be a nice place. No idea how many people will be in this orientation class.

    Just curious, why is that?

I do have a recent and valid medical card so I don't know if they will have me get a new one or not. I already took a urine and hair follicle test on Friday so that part should be taken care of.

I don't know your age but many drivers get to orientation and won't fast. Then fill up with coffee. Then go to the clinic for a physical then blow the bulb off the blood pressure cuff and have protein spilling into their urine. I have actually watched drivers do this and later get sent home. THAT is why I said that.
