How much is the communication with your DM done via voice calls? CBs aren't used much anymore either I see. I take it mostly everything is done thru the ELD? Like texts/emails back & forth? If that's the case I'm golden.

Still have to hear sirens on emergency vehicles.

I know a guy who was hard of hearing, had hearing aids, had to do 1 year medical cards, he had a CB but hardly used it due to the roger beep users, said it was way to loud through hearing aids.
But it’s possible. -
So is this a yes, your dispatch/driver manager comms are all thru the qualcomm writen msgs?
firemedic2816 Thanks this. -
If you can pass a dot physical nothing is stopping you
firemedic2816 Thanks this. -

No it is not a yes, it is a no. Business is conducted on the telephone as well as the computer. Not all communications are done digitally.
You will need to to speak with representatives of both your company and your customers via a telephone.
A cell phone is also required at certain customers as that is how they communicate with the truck drivers.
Ok, your question has been answered, now answer ours. Can you pass a D.O.T. Physical? There is a hearing test as part of that physical.firemedic2816 Thanks this. -
It can be a yes, depends on trailer you pull.
He pulls a hopper bottom and all his family was born with hearing problems.
As long as you aren’t deaf all the way, or can hear with the aide of a hearing device, you can explain to the places you go that may want to call you inside.
Most hopper places don’t call you, you sit in line til your turn.gräkken Thanks this. -
My company has a driver that is deaf. I mean full blown deaf. They had a trainer that knew ASL to train him. All his communication is through the Qualcomm, but even a person who has normal hearing is also messaged through the Qualcomm. They may call us, but we always get a message stating the same thing as the conversation.
When he goes to a shipper he has a card that he shows them that he is hearing impaired. They send someone out to his cab.Brettj3876 and gräkken Thank this. -
In todays day of voice to text i don't think you have anything to worry about ....as long as your able to pass the medical like everyone else you'll be fine i'm sure.
gräkken Thanks this.
