I am used to dragging a trailer that is 13'6"...... I have changed companies and now have inherited a 14' trailer that is clearly marked not for use in states that are essentially east of the eastern state line for Nebraska. I have adjusted my dimensions in my nav unit to compensate for the additional height. Can I still get a violation if inspected in any of the restricted states? Is it my responsibility as the driver, or my company's for assigning it to me and giving me dispatches into the restricted states?

The restrictions for that trailer are a company thing not a dot thing. You won't get any violation for it.
But you might violate that trailer if you don't pay attention. -

That would be a nightmare. I can think of plenty of bridges on major interstates marked 13'6 - 14-0" and have little or no prior warning since the statutory height for east of Mississippi river is 13'6". I would think you would be ticketed for it in those states since you are over height.
Shouldn't take long to trim it down to size.snowwy Thanks this. -
You'll need a permit for every state that has a 13' 6" height limit. Have fun with that.

Thanks... I will mention it to the boss, but I did set my height on my NAV to a minimum of 14'6" just to eliminate attempting to pass under a bridge spec'd out for less than that. I don't want a can opener situation on my record.........

Does anyone else remember when Werner bought all those 57' trailers? Those things were impounded all over the country. There was a big push to make 57' trailers standard, but that never came to fruition.

It would be the same as running a 9’ wide load or trailer - if the state says 8’6” is legal, then that’s all you get - anything more requires a permit.
While running 14’ tall may not cause many problems if you’re careful, it doesn’t matter, rules are rules.MACK E-6 Thanks this. -
I don't know why in the world you would want to run east with that extra few inches up top. Maybe strip your customers in excessive oversize fees for permits etc.
There are just plum too many bridges east of the old Miss you aint gonna make with that 14 footer. Get rid of it.
