I went back and read your posts, figured you were about 40 years old, was changing careers, had half a brain - but made a classic mistake by not being in a position to fund your own CDL training - it happens. And you’re faced with the consequences.

Therefore, probably based on @Chinatown ‘s recommendations, happened upon the Springfield MO crowd, who may or may not have blown hot gases up your rear end about how wonderful they were.

And here we are. You question what is right or wrong in regards to training - and I’m honestly surprised at the popcorn crowd, usually the first to blame poor training and mega companies for the state of the industry - the responses are 90% calling you the snowflake A-hole.

TTR can be a different animal on any given day, I guess.

And I’ll throw the warning in here, on behalf - let your responses be respectful, these threads quickly turn sour, and you get banned before you get to tell the whole story.

@Lee79 - is the above statement correct? Are you on a learners permit?

This is true, he has to be in the passenger seat when the student is in control of the truck, no exceptions.

We all started at one point. So no biggy. I dont hold grudges, not worth it. Your first post made it sound that you were feeling abused for the trainer wanting you to do 6 hours. Just the way you phrased it. The hardest part with posting here is the ability to post and accureately make a post that all will understand.

If you feel your not getting the training you need, contact your driver manager. It is you whom wants to learn. A neighbor to me here also went to prime. He too had a trainer that just tossed him the keys yet the trainer didnt really train. So he contacted some one and he got a better trainer whom gave him a more in depth trainer ( no I dont know whom that trainer is, and no that neighbor isnt around anymore). So there is hope for you yet

I remember when this happened over 10 years ago. The truck that went over the cliff was being driven by a student with the trainer asleep in the bunk. Both men died that day.

Sorry OP, you are supposed to drive to learn.

YOUR "trainer" is there to correct your mistakes, not hold your hand.

If he is sitting there in the passenger seat (which I assume he is doing) and making comments about things to correct you (one should not be your speed unless you are driving dangerously too slow), I don't see the problem with 6 hours in the seat.

THAT IS WHAT TRAINING IS ALL ABOUT.

I have seen some training programs up close and personal and most of them setup the student to fail, maybe throwing someone in the deep end is the best thing.

I would worry when he shuts up and doesn't say anything for an entire trip.

As others mentioned, I was handed the keys with a newly acquired chauffeurs license (I got it that morning) and $1.50 for a log book and told "let's go". My first trip in a truck started in rush hour with 35,000 lbs of steel (which I had to learn how to secure it with snap binders) and ended up out west with the owner of the truck sleeping half the time. I know it isn't done today, you have to think about what you want to get out of this and take the initiative to stop worrying and start doing.
