Good advice above! You are hands down without a doubt FINISHED in this line of work if you do not take care of it. I got a 74 in a 60 last year and my company told me to get a lawyer and fight it. They were pretty certain our insurance company would drop me. So with that being I said I hired a lawyer and got it reduced to a 62 in a 60. Cost me $750 dollars but worth every penny.
You waited too long to get this taken care of BUT like other posters have mentioned you still have a chance but it's going to cost you. Please come back and tell us the good, bad, and ugly of your court experience. It will help others out.

Get a dmv report BEFORE you go to court (without attorney) when you get called to talk to the DA, explain you have a CDL, show him/her your clean DMV report. If they won't lower it significantly ( they likely will lower it), then say you need time to get an attorney

Here is a post I put in a thread titled: Can you get a speeding ticket expunged" or something like that:
I have had several tickets over the years. Generally speaking, you don't need any legal services including an attorney to get this done. When you get a ticket, call the D.A. for that jurisdiction & tell them you have a CDL & ask them if you can get the ticket reduced to a non-moving violation.
I have never had anyone refuse to help me. One of several things will happen.
1) You may have to sign a paper agreeing that you wont get another ticket in that jurisdiction for 6 months or a year. If you do get another ticket, your ticket will be put back to its original charge & will show on your CDL.
2) You may have to pay a bit extra like $25 or $50 more than what the original fine would have been.
3) Some places will just reduce it for the same money.
4) Some jurisdictions will reduce it to a non-moving violation & charge you the lesser amount associated with the lesser charge.Jbkrash and scottied67 Thank this. -
Thanks for all the information! From what I have read I think I will call the DA in that county tomorrow and see what can be worked out with them. I will still plan on showing up for court on Monday, but at least I will know what I have in front of me in court. I have thought the same about a lawyer. It seems why should I pay somebody $350 for something I can do myself. Everyone always wants to run out and get a lawyer. I'll keep everyone posted on what happens in this fine state of Illinois in Whiteside County. Thanks again everyone! Be safe out there!!

becuase you know nothing about how the system works. and the lawyer does it for a living.
he can argue the case better then you will ever be able to handle it.
i'll gladly pay a lawyer vs. taking the time off to travel and a motel and all that.
lost wages for a day or two or three. depending on your location of ticket. plus gas and food and motels. cheaper to just pay a lawyer.
your gonna pay the fine, no matter what. but at least limit the consequences so that your not at a disadvantge for work. -
At this time I am out of work so no time lost or pay. The couple of lawyers I talked to said minimum would cost me between $800-1000 between lawyers fees and court costs? As of right now the only fee I have is a ticket with a fine of $120. I do live close enough for no hotel fees. So I will take my chances and try it myself. If it does not go well then I will ask for a continuance and get a lawyer for the next court date.

fight it any way you can.... 15 over is a deal breaker for insurance

I see above that you got the correct advise. You NEVER speak to the judge. He will not listen. What you do is this. Go to court. If the cop does not show up which is 33% of the time, ask the case to be dismissed. You have to make a motion which is how you speak to the judge. Your honor, I move this case dismissed. The judge will grant it. If the cop is there ask for a postponement to hire an attorney. Then speak to the DA. A 15 over can be reduced to a non moving but more likely to a 1 mile over. The fine is the same but the DA trades it out for a no trial. This is what a lawyer would do for you. You can do it yourself.
If you can not make a deal, plead, NOT GUILTY. You will lose at trial. At which point, YOU APPEAL. That will require you to put up and appeal bond. It is usually much less then the fine. The case will go from city court to county court. Most of the time 80% or so, you get your appeal bond back and the case gets dropped.bullhaulerswife and Killer60148 Thank this.
