Help with Decision, automatic transmission in the oil fields?

I cant speak to the Eaton's but an I-shift will take whatever you can throw at it. I beat the snot out of the I shift in my old volvo pulling 140k gross up and down 6-12% every day for years

That truck is retired now but the clutch lasted about 500k miles before I replaced it. Theres 1 million km on the tranny now and wouldn't hesitate to take that truck to work on Monday if I had to

I still prefer an 18 speed manual though

 

Only problem i had was water got into the computer on trans.
Kind of developed a mind of its own .
The worst part was finding someone who could or would be willing to work on it.
Peterbilt parts changers had Eaton on the phone and still could not fix it.
Changed all the wiring still not right.
14k later I found a mechanic that had a used computer on the shelf. Put it in and never had a ounce of trouble with it.
Their the only way to fly.

 

We use Allison auto's in the iron ore mines I work in...haven't seen one fail yet.

 

Not an owner, but been towed twice last 3 weeks in a kw with Eaton auto. X-15 550 hp running steel in lots of rough places. Tow truck claims they get more tows from Transmissions now then DEF. Oilfield I’d run manual, they’ll give you warning & still make it home at least.

 

I’ve run that mDrive up and down a lot of gravel, sand roads, and rough roads just he sure to turn off traction control.

 

UltraShift transmissions work pretty well, but older AutoShifts seem to be the Maxxforce of the transmission world.

 

Automatics have come a long ways since the old Allisons of the 70s. I think they have gotten to the point, they can do anything a manual can, HOWEVER,,,I'm old school, and NOTHING takes a beating like an old Mack, from experience. I feel a manual transmission is still better suited for extreme situations, and a quick repair if needed. I've heard nothing but nightmare stories pertaining to automatics.
