Depends on what your tires are rated for , if had a rating for 13000 I'd use it, mine are rated for 12500 .. just so long as it's not of over gross..
Steers 12490,
Drives 34000
Tandems 33510 -
So states like mississippi, indiana, and lousiana dont care if over 12k as long as within manufacturer specs and not over gross
-
Haven't had a problem with it here .. ever... no over weight tickets of any kind

It's not just Freightliner, my company's newest Cummins powered Prostar's were over 13k on the steers bobtail. But, they were delivered with standard weight rated tires (6175 lbs max per tire). Which sucks because we're a plastic bag maker, and company policy is trucks can't exceed 12k, 34k, 34k...they had to adjust their policy for new equipment and have the dealer come out and re-equip the trucks with legal load rated tires.
When I was at Crete, the last Century Class I was assigned had an APU, and 12k front axles...any load over 38k put me over the rated limit of the steer axle, but I never got ticketed and ran over 12k regularly. (They had fixed 5th wheels)OOOYeah!!! Thanks this. -
