I have a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia with Cummins ISX and the high exhaust temp light turns on every time I come to a full stop. I was having a clogged DPF and I took it to the shop and had them take it out and clean it so I'm not sure if those two are related. The engine sounds very rough and laggy and as soon as I start rolling at around 8 MPH the light goes away and the truck is back to normal. Any ideas?
Thats what mhc kw told me and charged me for a year and a half ago, to find out they used a water hose and rinsed filter off and put it back in. 4 grand and 30 days later I was in peterbilt shop for 2.5 weeks.. 1 week waiting my turn. 1 week waiting on parts they didnt have in stock, and the half week to put it back together to fix the problem that KW didnt while I was at the house..
HEST is typically an indicator light that warns the operator that the engine is performing an active regeneration.
My 13 w9 does this all the time. Cummins 500, just got it out having the injector cups replaced, and a new DPF filter, it didn’t do it for about two days and then started again
Depending on you mileage and how the maintenance was done you may need to replace components of the exhaust system. Those dpf cleanouts only work so long before they are just needing to be replaced. I am having the same issue with my rig and I see exhaust escaping from some of the components.
A couple times I've gotten off a highway offramp and come to a stop, and I hear my engine in a high idle. I look down and that light is on, so I assume it was in the middle of doing a regen when I got off the freeway.
Hest light is high exhaust temp . Basically Means it’s trying to do a regen. The light is set up to turn off at a certain mph like 5 or 7......even tho the exhaust is still hot. It’s meant for dummies so you don’t park and melt the siding off a bld or something like that....touch the pipe with your hand etc...... P.S. you have emissions problems in your future........
