It isn't unusual for an accident like this to cause the tire to roll off the rim just enough that it quickly loses air. That is not a true blow out. But I'm not trying to second guess the OP here.

I was getting unldd at a shipper about a month ago and the driver there was sorta a chatter box (like me..lol), in his conversation some how we got on the subject of safety. I was a lil shocked but he told me he always hits at least a couple things a year and he did top the trailer on a low bridge he said once. I was like geeze, then I said they keep you on there, he said yeah, as you see I'm still here. I don't remember the company name but I know was a red truck outta MS, so I'm thinking Total Transport, idk. He had bad hygiene, ya know he was a very nice dude, but he reminded me of Pigpen in Charle Brown. ..a few drivers avoided him in the driver checkin area. That's why I sorta forgot who he drove for outside of the above. I was gonna hang a bar of soap outside his drivers side door but I didnt. Anyways driver, I don't believe it's the end of your truck driving, just your gonna have to do your home work and eat some major crow. By the way many non mega carriers don't use DAC, in fact DAC just lost a lawsuit and OOIDA is or has plans to sue them. I have a good DAC, but I think they should be put out of business, some drivers have been abused by their crap. I would even be willing to donate to the cause of them being sued.

There is a suit related to DAC. We are at the end of sept should have had a hearing on it already and I think checks roll out by winter. Not very much depending on how many sent the little postcard back for a share of the award.

The only folks who actually get much out of class action lawsuits are the friggin' attorneys. And those bottom feeding, scum sucking, slime ball, dirt bag bastids are the least desirving of anybody!

Is the career over? Short answer is no. I would fight the ticket and hope it gets removed, but if it doesnt you're still not dead in the water a ton of companies allow multiple violations in a driver's history.
The tricky part here is that the accident resulted in a towed vehicle, that makes it a DOT Recordable - Preventable, which some companies look down upon pretty harshly. My company won't hire a driver if they have a DOT Recordable - Preventable in the last 10 years, whereas a normal preventable (say backing into a fixed object) is only 3 years back.
There are definitely companies that will still hire you, but I would probably let them know in the interview what happened, a lot of places will instantly fire you if it is found out later. -
A driver at my company recently fell asleep at the wheel and hit the guard rail. Tore his tank open and the whole truck and trailer burned to the ground. I guess it's not a tow away/reportable if they just sweep it onto the shoulder. Anyways he still drives for us.
I had a roll over 2.5 years ago and I'm still driving.
It's not the end of your career but you will probably have to settle for less but I would still avoid 1099. Craigslist is your new best friend. Learn from your mistakes and move on. You'll be a better driver for it.Rusty Trawler and free spirited1 Thank this. -
