Hi guys, i’ve been an O/O under my own authority for few years now. Ive been doing ok and now i’m ready to hire a driver for my 2nd truck that i’m buying.
I’ve never hired anyone before, how do you guys pay your drivers and whats the process of taking out their taxes and what not. I hate doing taxes so i just have my tax guy do everything. Any tips or things that need to be done?
Hiring first driver ever

Most tax guys offer payroll service, otherwise something like Quicken Payroll. But if you hate paperwork, someone who actually LIKES paperwork is the way to go.....
Brettj3876 and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -

We use the local HR block for payroll

I also pay someone for payroll. The biggest issue is finding a good driver. Writing odometer between states and keeping fuel receipts alone seems to baffle everyone.
HR block guy does the taxes at end of year and gives me w2’s but a local family does my payroll and dispatching.rachi and Brettj3876 Thank this. -

I pay my drivers in peanuts, they love it because they’re all just a bunch of monkeys
