get the other vehicle's approaching view from a good distance back and a little closer.

Same thing with the debris, get back showing where it is then closer and a close up.

if struck by an auto, squat down so you take the pictures from a auto drivers eye level.

Pictures, BUT NEVER BLOOD, GUTS AND GORE ! ! ! ! !

Always take pictures and think Name Rank and serial number...nothing more; never walk around saying; 'I'M SORRY-or- 'IT WAS MY FAULT'...make their lawyers work for their money.

 

You could walk around and see if any trucks have a dash cam. Maybe leave a note asking if they caught it on video and leave an email address so they could send it to you.

Some of them have motion detectors and record movement all night long.

Edit: probably too late now... but next time.

 

If you guys ever have an incident and see an Ozark truck across the way, kindly ask that driver if they can get safety to send you the camera footage. Our outside cameras are on 24 and 7. Only the inward facing camera turns off any time the vehicle is not in motion.

 

I'm sure as hell not going to sleep through my truck rocking from being hit !

 

Most likely they don't have the footage still saved. Most fleet camera systems don't store for very long unless triggered.

 

Take video of the incident rather than just static photos. Video brings another level of 'real' to the table. Many insurance companies will not accept digital photos from digital devices due to the ease of manipulation (think photoshop) but will accept video footage.

Here is a short video I sent to my insurance agent in lieu of a ton of pictures.

Exactly, even if you go shower, ####, brush teeth, still sleeper berth without a hotel bill.
#### if you log to off duty to go for a walk, that could be considered working changing eld screen.

 

I hit a deer about 3:00 in the morning once. No cell service for miles. The insurance all but refused my claim due to no police report. I asked what was I supposed to do wait for a cop to come by sometime. I was on one of those long stretches of rural 2 lane with no traffic at that time of day.
