I couldn't agree with you more. I've gone this long without my skin being made into a lampshade, I'd like to keep that streak going.Midnightrider909 and The Big T Thank this.

Not to mention if she is so willing to give favors to any random driver, who else has she shard favors with and what sort of diseases is she carrying. No thanks...

I thought the main reason you don't see as many hitchhikers today is because Swift and Schninder drivers don't take as many vacations as they use too?
bottomdumpin and striker Thank this. -
Does it work like airline employees? Just jump in a truck going your way?

It's not a truck story, but here goes...
It's 1981, I'm about to graduate from high school, and I'm stylin' and profilin' in my first car, a '74 Corolla. I'm driving down the main drag, just about done burning the first doobie of the day, so 2pm or so. I'm sitting at a red light, enjoying the buzz when I hear a tapping on the passenger window. I turn my head, and to my surprise it's an old lady, in the official Old Lady Uniform of big heavy black coat, fuzzy black pillbox hat, big, clunky black shoes, polished black wood cane.
At this point, I'm not sure if I'm hallucinating or not, so I reach over to roll down the window and in her soft, little old lady voice says, "Excuse me, could you please give me a ride to Star Market?"
"......Sure. ......hop in."
So she gets in and off we go, it's about six blocks away. At every red light I look over at her, but she's sitting straight upright with her eyes forward, and stayed that way the whole ride. I wanted to ask her why she chose me out of all the cars passing by, but her demeanor permitted no inquiries.
I pulled up into the parking lot and right up to the entrance door at Star Market. She said "Thank you" without looking at me and got out.
"Ya want me to wait?"
It was then she bent down to the window, gave me the faintest hint of a smile on her thin lips, and said, "No thank you, dear. I'll find my way home".
And with that she was gone.
A slice of life I'll never forget......bottomdumpin, FalconsFan21, TaterWagon#62 and 3 others Thank this. -
Keep it clean, please!
JReding, MidwestResident and Flashdrive7 Thank this.
