If you would like more hometime you can work at Roehl, Marten, Knight, Schneider, - I can't think of them all right now - that offer 7 on 7 off schedules or 14 on 7 off schedules.
-
The trouble with 7 on, 7 off is you don't have enough time to make a living.
You work 2 weeks per month and even if you get 3,000 miles per week, that only comes to $1,800 per month at 0.30.
And I doubt you'll see those kinds of miles. At least the people I know that tried those programs didn't.Nightwind8830 and Corporal_Clegg Thank this. -
Is it worth it to drive 14 on and have 7 days off? i make roughly $32,000yr now ad need a route where i can make more than that....
Also do you know how much extra you pay for ins to have someone ride along? not riding along all the time but very occasionally? i apolgize in advance this isnt the best phrased question.Last edited: Aug 28, 2013

The short answer is no.
You will be over the road, delivering to US and Canada, out for several weeks at a time. It is my understanding that what regional and dedicated Stevens does have are for more senior drivers.
The rider ins runs 30.00 per month I believe. But no riders over 18 yr old until your 90 days is up and none under 18 until a year OTR. I dont recall what the lower limit is on rider age but I think its 11 or 12Nightwind8830 Thanks this. -
There are drivers that get on dedicated routes after one year OTR (or so). It largely depends on how you prove yourself up front, and an opening at the right time. Everyone is different. I think one of the things that keeps drivers (that apply themselves) from going into dedicated or staying in dedicated is the draw of the road.
I can't explain it, but there is a draw for some of us that trumps everything.
I'd be a liar if I didn't say I miss the road. There is just something about it.
And often it's a love hate relationship. But it's so strong and like the sirens of Jason and Argonauts, it beckons you.
But then it fits others and all I can say is God Bless them.flue, KMac and Nightwind8830 Thank this. -
A sever case of wanderlust in my case. -
Back to the topic at hand, I heard Schneider has a flexible home schedule, maybe ill try to get hired for out 14 days and back 7 to see how that goes. really,as long as i make more than $450/week after taxes ill be happyLast edited: Aug 28, 2013
