I left Missouri on I-55 yesterday, and had a trip plan to take my 30 minute break at Hooks,TX. I have not been there in a while.

At one time at Hooks, you could get some really good fried food in there. They had their own home made cinnamon rolls and they were better than cinn-a-bon. They had catfish and all kinds of stuff to eat. Or you could walk across the street and eat some good barbecue. There was another big barbecue place on the NW corner of I-35, but had no truck parking. There was another truck stop on the NE corner, it was an Exxon.

All those businesses are closed, and the remaining truck stop had cold hotdogs and corndogs.

What a disappointment, and sad that everything has closed over there. I think the DQ is still open, but I didn't even bother.

I've seen people working on the building recently at the old Hooks truck stop that's been closed a long time. Can't remember how long its been closed. I think it was sold and the new owner plans to reopen it.

The last owners of that TS, were Asians. She was as sweet and nice as a lady could possibly be. He was a mean guy, charged for parking and overall not a personable fellah. He once gave me a hard time for getting a tire replaced in his parking lot. I told him I just spent $20 bucks on crap in the store and he walked away.

Used to run through there quite a bit but haven't been up there in a few years. Did a guys run to Tennessee and back last week while he was on vacation and did notice something going on in there. Definitely going back into business.

Little hint for you, x192 off 30, Cullpeppers restaurant. The best #### home cooking you'll ever have. It's an old fuel stop that's been closed about three years but the restaurant is still up and running. Looks like a total dive. Order an extra roll with your dinner....homemade!
