That's interesting. I would think during an inspection they'd still be allowed to look at your logs even though your exempt at that time to inspect your previous 7 days of logs for the parts of your trip that weren't exempt.
It's even more surprising IA DOT would say that. They're some of the worst, but maybe they're getting better. I haven't crossed a scale in IA for years.

I got inspected at Bellevue Kansas last month, at exempt. He made me send him my logs to “make sure.”Feedman and Constant Learner Thank this.

The regs say ag exempt means you’re exempt from every part of 395, meaning also the requirement to record hours of service. Legally when exempt you’re not even required to have a log book. Doesn’t matter what you were doing before that time until you’re no longer exempt.Feedman and Opendeckin Thank this.

I’m sure they’ll look at whatever you’re willing to show them.

I told him ag exempt, he said ok. Send it to me, I am going to check your radius you’ve used and make sure you’re ag except. Which I was.Feedman and Constant Learner Thank this.

He could have done that from your manifest or bill of lading.... as original documents, they are the proper way to verify that question.

The reason I asked is I saw an article about a trucker that got a HOS violation and tried to fight the ticket. As I read it the judge said he didnt have to show logbook book but since he did he was screwed.
Now I can't find that article again. -
I've been challenged on the 150 mile thing and the shipping ticket satisfied that challenge.

Any time I was called in while exempt I left the tablet in the truck.Bean Jr. Thanks this.

What about if you've violated the rule with one of your previous loads? If I'm an officer, I always will ask for the logbook.
