I know what you're saying and yes you're correct. However since I have been driving for them, I have done my logs, logging sleeper when I shut down for the night while away. Once I'm back home for the weekend, I log off duty. I've asked a few times, if there were any problems with my logs, and was told there were none. Most of the time, I'm only shutdown for 10-11 hrs before I'm rolling again. A few times, I've had to sit for 14-16 hrs, arriving in the area of where I'm to load early in the evening, and the elevator or quarry doesn't open until 7 or 8 am.

There is no maximum limit to log time in the sleeper line.

You are not required to log 'off duty' during a 34 to my knowledge.

Random thoughts: If you are logged on sleeper line and leave the sleeper it is in your best interest to log the change of duty. If a few days later you were in a crash, the investigators will dig into your logs and find out you swiped your ATM card while logged sleeper, you're going to jail in a fatality crash. Then you will be sued civilly for everything you own and could have owned and earned in your natural born lifetime. If it's a plain ole crash you'll just be hit with log falsification and huge fines. Where this is especially important if you are split breaking and showing that legal 8 hour sleeper break. Do you think a jury of your peers will be sympathetic to you for falsifying your logs?

If you have a sleeper on your truck you do not have to produce hotel receipts.

Logging sleeper for 50 hours straight is a little odd and will raise red flags to anybody looking at your logs. If you step out for a few minutes you must log that if for nothing else than to show you are not a freak.

While it could be argued hotel receipts are among "supporting documents " that should be turned over on request FMCSR do not require drivers without sleepers to stay in hotels . There is no violation regarding not staying in a hotel

That's absolutely correct, and additionally there are no regs requiring a driver to account for anything he/she does during their off duty time.

    Best regards
