It happens to people on Paper as well. It's not a big deal. You drive to where it's safe. The only bad thing is like with Scottie. If you had 7hr and 30 mins in the sleeper and you drive past your companies .5 or Less then 5 minutes setting. Then all that sleeper time is useless and you start over. So that's where good trip planning comes in. Thanks to google maps you can usually scope out a place that you can get to without triggering the drive line. Then sometimes there is no parking no where and no shoulder to get on so you just get some extra sleep time I guess, and hear the lady tell you. That you are in violation, but its not like the E log calls the Dot on you. For me it just makes this job that much funner sometimes trying to beat the clock and the Elog system. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. But there's always another day to get that VICTORY!!

I Actually won, but lost in LA Yesterday. I ran out of hours at receiver, was able to pull to the street. The thing that got me was there was no food places around and they had lunch trucks but I didn't have any cash only plastic. Did find 4 dollars in change and was able to get something, but I'll know next time. And Knowing is half the Battle GI JOE!!

Ive had this happen a time or two since I went on elogs. My safety dept tells us to drive to the closest possible place and note in the comments section why. Got dot'd a couple days later after 1 time. Officer asked me where i was and why I had to move.Explained the situation to him and he just nodded and continued his insp. No warnings or violations!

If you are out of your 14, but not your 11, and you logged enough pre-trip time that day - you can edit the pre-trip time down a bit to cover 10 minutes or so.

Have the shipper make a notation on your BOL that you cannot stay, have him/her sign it. Then do a safe haven. You then have proof that you had to do the safe haven as the shippers has the right not to allow you to stay on private property.

"Safe haven " only applies to parking for Class 1 hazmat . A shippers signature does not make it less of a violation .

Another option on the elogs I *heard* lol was to log off the system, drive away outlaw style, do your break then return to the scene and log back on, looks like you completed your break right there at the gps coordinates.

I don't know about other systems but ours alerts safety when the truck moves 15 minutes when logged off . You may log out but the system stays on .
