He's right, I'm afraid.
The Constitution affords protection from the government. It doesn't afford protection from any private entity to whom disclosure of such things is required by that entity to be in their employ.
That said, Hell will freeze over before I submit to anything of the sort from any company. Enough is too much. The Walmart drivers can have it if that is what they want.
How come everyone isn't driving for Walmart?

As it's been mentioned in this thread and many others, a second phone is all you need to circumvent such an idiotic policy.
There is a thread on here from last year started by a former Wal Mart driver out of Fort Collins that got canned over a text message. -
If you're looking for "quality of life" or "work life balance," you shouldn't be in the an industry where 14 hour days and 70 hour workweeks are the norm.JoeB, skinnytrucker and Coolbreeze Thank this.

Walmart was a great job in the 90's and before. Now they are too big for their britches! Back then they had a good rider policy for kids, which was really cool. I know how it used to be. I could never driver for them now.
drvrtech77 Thanks this. -
That's the norm with OTR. You can live at home, drive a truck, and still earn a good living if you want. Living in a truck is a choice.truckon Thanks this.

Back then?? You mean like now?? Our son rides whenever he has a week available. Once a year we have to fill out a form saying it is ok for him to go that both of us have to sign. They actually encourage family members to ride along, and love seeing our son when he goes. At some point, I will ride with him also.
As for the gentleman who lost his job due to a text while driving........... texting while driving is a FEDERAL no-no. Do you honestly want people driving around with 80k pounds, texting?? I don't care how "professional" you are, that is a huge distraction and causes many accidents. He knew the law, he broke the law on a federal level, and he lost his job. There are consequences to our actions.MilkyJay and skinnytrucker Thank this. -
actually that Walmart driver had stated that he did not text anybody somebody had sent him a text but did not read that text but wal-mart said it don't matter... That's the problem
-
Thank you, I was going to look for the thread because I recalled there being more to it.
-
Actually, that is not true. What he may have changed his story to, or started out as, is not the issue. The issue was that he answered the incoming text with a one word text. Be it no, or yes, or ok............ whatever. He did make the 1 word text, and had an accident which allowed Walmart to ask for his records.
Believe it or not, you have to work pretty hard to get fired............ unless you break federal law. -
you saying he broke the rules because Walmart said so?... I'll put it this way Walmart is not the premium driving job anymore like everybody tries to claim because if that was the case why on earth do they have to advertise and trucking publications that sit outside the truck stop entrances for drivers?...Coolbreeze Thanks this.
