Remember you're not only splitting the 10 but the 11 and 14 as well.
    Doesn't matter 2 or 8 break first.
Plenty of good reasons to split. If they take two or three hours to live load you, take an 8 sleeper break and complete the ten.

Another reason: maybe you don't feel like driving all night and know you gonna need a 10 hour break on this load anyway, stop and take 8 hours in the sleeper and get up and drive some more then a 2 hour break somewhere down the road and deliver.

Very inaccurate . The 8/2 split only applies to split sleeper berth . If you are stopped a full 10 hours it can be any combination of sleeper/off duty . If a driver is off a full 10 he can just log it as he does it in and out of the sleeper . A driver can pull into a truck stop , log 2 hours off duty to eat , shower , etc. then after logging only 6 sleeper berth he can log another 2 off duty and be legal . This " 10 hours of driving is all you can do without a 10 hour reset" is also inaccurate .

I do 8/2 splits a lot and e logs makes you stay in the sleeper for 8 before you get any time back. Then you have to do 2 to keep it from screwing up your hours the next day.

Our company doesn't allow you to do it because we hire a lot of new drivers. So far I haven't been caught by the log department and I will continue to split until they say something.

Just wanted to add that, RickG is right on the money though.
