You make $16.50 an hour for cdl work?! Where do you live? That sounds ridiculous. Are you doing class A or class B work?

South Florida, Class A. I could make more doing Food Service or Beverage delivery, but, no thanks. As I rapidly approach my 50th birthday, I would like to keep my spine in one piece.
BigDog Trucker, Coover and bzinger Thank this. -
Mike2633 Thanks this.

Nope, no criminal history or tainted driving record or anything like that. That's just how it is down here. I regularly see ads from a fuel company offering $17-19 per hour depending on experience. I have hazmat and tanker endorsements, but I just don't think that pay is worth it to deal with fuel delivery, loading at port racks etc etc.
Mike2633, BigDog Trucker and Coover Thank this. -
Yeah I wish fuel paid better in Florida. There's like only three carriers Keenan, torissee, and Florida rock and tank all of which use % of load which is a good way to cheat workers.
Mike2633, Northeasterner and speedyk Thank this. -
This is a small mom and pop fuel outfit, not one of the big name players. I see their trucks running around, they look to be good, well maintained equipment, but pretty trucks don't pay the bills.

UPSF has been great for me but I had to put in my time like everybody else. I'm on a linehaul run where I'll make 100k+ this year with great benefits while also driving a 2018 freightliner. I work out of one of the bigger terminals and our entire fleet of linehaul tractors are newer trucks.
BigDog Trucker, Bob Dobalina, McUzi and 1 other person Thank this. -

The drivers are getting older, thats for sure. But the guys who were top of the list at my terminal all started in their 20s, and now are at top of the list in mid 40s, early 50s, and they aint going nowhere anytime soon, even though the word was that they were retiring in the next 5 years. Pretty much they are legacy overnite guys that didnt have to deal with all the ups low wages or pay progression bull that the new guys do now.Mike2633 Thanks this.
