2014 Volvo 780 with D13 engine and I Shift transmission. Bobtailing I get 9.3 mpg at 70 mph. Empty flatbed, 8 mph at 70 mph. Loaded flatbed with 45,000 lbs I get 6.5 mpg at 65 mph. I have only had the truck a week, but it does seem that the sweet spot is between 65 to 70 mph. My engine turns at 1200 rpm at 65 and 1300 rpm at 70. It pulls 45,000 lbs like the trailer is empty.

    mp4694330 and RickG Thank this.

Absolutely. Myself if im running heavy through KY,WV,VA,TN etc(mountains) I tend to throw the mph/mpg fixation out the window. Thats a try not to get a ticket situation for me ;). More speed = less work pulling upgrades.
