When I pulled a box, if I even got detention, they capped it at 5 hours. At that point the companies considered it a layover and the 5 hrs covered that.
In tanker, after two free hours, we get paid until we are done and are able to leave the plant. Whether it be 5 hours or five days, we get paid for every hour we wait.

Man, I can't wait until I have the seat time to do tankers. Just landed my first job today with a Teamsters Union LTL. Nobody is saying it's a great job but I am a new grad and I got to start somewhere!

As a green rookie heading out OTR I expected places like Nashville and Houston to have bad traffic...Baton Rouge was memorable because it definitely caught me off guard.

You need to time yourself to go thru Baton Rouge very early in the am, otherwise it is a nightmare. Three full lanes of I10 traffic having to merge into one lane at the bottom of the bridge... who woulda've thunk that would be okay?

I had a teamsters union job. Hope I never have to return there. Some guys just knew how to play the system. Do half the work of everyone else, then run to the union rep crying harassment whenever management tried to get him to do more.

Yea, I'll see the deal. Not worried about it because it's my first gig. I will just work and keep my head down. Not going to worry about how much or little others are doing. Just going to focus on what I am doing. They can take a nap while I bust my ###... I don't care. To me this is my 2nd job. My first is day trading and this is a means to that end. Once I start consistently making 2X what I am making daily at work I will probably stop doing OT and just keep working whatever hours I need to to keep my insurance. That could take months or it could take years.

Unions are there to defend the laziest, most indifferent, incompetent, accident prone morons in the work force. The other workers don’t need that much help keeping a job.
