I went to a flatbed company for short period of time. How much experience can I say I have on an application? Orientation I was not officially an employee yet. Day I got on trainer truck I was hired on. I can count that time? I drove 90% of the time. (Did not run team). I would like to be able to say I have 3 months experience but I think that is stretching it.![]()
Orientation: 2 weeks
Trainer Truck: 3 weeks
Solo: 8 weeks
Thanks!
How is your experience calculated?

Experience starts the day you were hired.

In the grand scheme of things you’re still pretty green as far as deck work goes. That said, you did get some training and some supervised hands on on the road, and managed a couple of months solo with no catastrophes. That puts you leagues ahead of most of the crowd at any open deck carrier that would consider a green driver. Just be honest and up front, and show what you can in the way of documentation for the training. You have an advantage over a lot of applicants, don’t throw it away in an attempt to BS your way through. A seasoned hand only needs to watch you around the trailer for a few minutes to see through the BS, and that may be the end of an opportunity, or any future guidance that may have been offered to you along the way. Its a great sector of the industry to work in once you get going. If you show potential and an open mind you’ll have a lot of help along the way. Good luck.

The next company will call the last company and ask them how long you worked there. Get a friend to call the last company and ask how long you worked there. Essentially you have 0 to 2 months.
