Real close once - the uphill ramp and turn into the truckstop was enough to create some air in the line temporarily. Got her to the pump and I rarely operate below 1/4 tanks now.
How many of you have run out of fuel?

After that big fire and seeing how many people ran out of gas during the evacuation, I am extra diligent in making sure I never let any of my vehicles drop below half a tank.

That was one thing I was always afraid of trying to run a tiny Carrier Unit on a freaking Dane 48 with like a 30 gallon tank, not even that. Thinking about how it always splashed back fuel all over me before clicking full... argh.
If you remember those old Carriers, they had the dials for temp. There is no real temp control, just all the way down for cold. As in frozen and somewhere in the middle for apples or something.
I never ran a reefer out.. but I have thrown fuel into it from the tractor tanks a time or two... Bosses always call me and wonder why the fuel mileage went ape for the trip... eh go figure.
The reefer issues went away when FFE started running me with Transicolds and 100 gallon tanks back there. True heaven. -
Hey heavy are you talking about those pos carrier Thunderbirds with the fuel tank under the unit ? ...I hated them too ! Lol.... although once ya got that boat anchor Thunderbird started ( if it would start) you never had to worry about it gelling up .

I did not remember them as Thunderbolts but that was what they were back in the day now that you reminded me.bzinger Thanks this.

I never have in a truck and rarely even get close. I'm uneasy if the idiot light starts flickering on and off so I usually go fill up if it's down around 1/4 tank. I did run out once a few years ago in a personal vehicle of mine which was embarrassing enough to make me not want to do it again.
I've always wondered what happens if you let the DEF run out though. -
i didnt run out of fuel but one time i got to work early in the morning and all tractors and reefers fuel tanks had been siphoned out.
bzinger Thanks this. -
The last few months before I retired , I ran out of gas every day! Never did in a truck though
-
Never in a truck, but I've come really close. Ran a reefer out in the middle of the night, found out the hard way the gauge was broken. I do not EVER wish to have that happen again, priming sucks!
