Some companies allow the driver to take a rider along.
Roehl lets you take a friend along.

If you’ve never done an extended trip I definitely recommend it. I spent a year traveling in Mexico before I started driving. It was great, different city every month. You’re gonna need some money tho, I don’t recommend doing it broke. I was getting rooms on Airbnb and I stayed on the ocean in multiple city’s and never payed more than $900 for the month rent. Looking back a year was a little bit too long but man it was a nice trip and I got that out of my system. I had to fly back after 6 months just to get another stamp on my passport. But dang it’s cheap down there if you know where to look and don’t mind mingling with the locals. I can get a room in progresso on the beach any time I want for less than $500 a month. Helps to know some Spanish.

Don't even consider it with that attitude. If you want to do it, do it right. Learn the job, stay off the phone, and be better than the rest.

Robert/Rebecca was a LS driver when I started, and he/she knew her stuff. I consulted with her a few times while on the F-150 frames project out of E-Town,KY. Sure, all the guys gave her a bit of flak (behind her back), but she was respected because she did the job as well or better than most. Drove an old Marmon I think.

Best friend back in the old country turned out to be bi-sexual, and shacked up with Andrew/Angie - from Samoa - fa' - fine - I think they call it. He had to explain it to me, like sit me down and explain this like I'm a 9 year old. I went home that night, and thought about my friendship with him, and realized that he was happier than I'd seen him in years. Most others rejected him. Angie held a fairly high ranking position as an advisor to the government. That was 20+ years ago.

The industry is hated to begin with, 85% male , and most female drivers are husband/wife teams. I rarely see a solo female flatbed driver, and very few alphabet soup drivers.

Go for it. But make sure you're gonna be better than the rest.

And when you look back, they'll be a lot you know then, that you didn't know now.

No pets for company drivers, lease can have pets. Training is usually 1 week, more can be requested.

Yep just one week out with a trainer, I think there’s a week of orientation and going in the yard also. I did my training at western so I’m not exactly sure.
