I'm being quoted $525 to tow a bobtail truck 2 miles.
    Does that sound right?

How far away is the tow truck yard? No money in it if they charged for the distance of the tow only. They probably charge from the moment the tow truck leaves the yard to when it comes back.

Call around, but - they have the equipment, you don’t.

We can’t expect good rates trucking, then complain when a guy with $200k of equipment wants to get paid.

Well, if that town is, for example, Ft. Worth they could be 30 miles away....

Heck even small townships could be on the other side of the county.

Its kinda like a ‘minimum day rate’ that I shoot for - mine is $1,200/day to the truck for showing up with $100k in equipment and the knowledge to not mess anything up.

It sounds about right to me. In my area (SWMO), you might get away with $350 for a 2 mile pull. If they’re not busy.

Company I once worked for was charged $5,000.00 for a tow of about 15 yards.
The driver pulled over on the paved shoulder to check his map. Sat there a couple of minutes and the heat of the tires melted the ice just enough to where the truck wouldn't move. Tow truck driver pulled the truck about 15 yards and refused to unhook unless he was paid $5,000.00 and yes, the company had to pay up right then. This happened in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

I had a 26 foot box truck towed about 15 miles from my yard to the mechanic for $375 here in Phoenix.
