We have two drivers that are 70. One is planning on retiring next year and the other one says he'll quit "when it's not fun anymore". I hate the thought of losing either one of them.
How old is too old?

It's the open road I think more than the truck. Back before I drove for a living I would always be jacked up when I had a legitimate reason to take a road trip in my car instead of just driving back and forth from work and the other usual crap. Especially if there was good scenery and maybe some snow to contend with to up the ante and danger factor a little.austinmike, Dave_in_AZ and SHOJim Thank this.

My very first local gig. Dude was mid 60s. Chain smoker but healthier then half the drivers. Company loved him. Funnier then all. Drove single dump truck. Passed away 6 months after I left the company. His son stayed dispatch. only job he ever had. The 2 of them were funnier then the 3 stooges. Was sad day when dad passed.x1Heavy and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

I like this job too much to give it up. Then again, I only have 15 years. That feeling might change after another 25.
But, I'll worry about that when the time comes.x1Heavy, Old - School and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this. -
Agree with above... health and ability not age.
Old - School Thanks this. -
I found out today the driver had bleeding on his brain and is now in stable condition. He said he never saw anyone on the side of the road. By this time he was already out of it.
The pedestrian was killed.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
I knew a guy who still drove truck at 92 years old. He ran family business and thats all that he wanted to do. Better than sitting in retirement home playing bingo.
A_C_Cooper, x1Heavy and fargonaz Thank this. -
I can see that . As long as he's healthy I see no problem . 92 is getting up there though.
It turns out this driver was 80 years old. -
Probably a tough guy too. Only problem with us tough guys, is we tolerate pain. Then you go to the doctor, find out you need a quadruple by pass, blood tests show you've suffered half a dozen minor heart attacks, or have had cancer for the last 7 years. So then you just die, which may or may not be better.
I get tired just thinking about how hard I worked in my early 20's. Energy was simply limitless.Old - School and x1Heavy Thank this.
