I was pretty set on working for Fastenal after graduating one week before Christmas... their hiring process is a little slower than most big companies. I was unwilling to wait and I and thought maybe bulk hazmat will be the way to go. Because of my inexperience, I couldn't find a company to train me to drive tankers. I done a little research and found Schneider. Last week I joined Schneider, flew from Atlanta to Houston. I passed all the tests and will be leaving with a trainer this Tuesday. I don't know where my trainer will be. I will be completely in the dark until Monday afternoon.
the pay doesn't seem that great, I don't like having to come in for training 14 days in a row, no days off... having to be there from 7 a.m. till 4:30 p.m. yes, they made us come in for New Year's day. This has been a major pain in the ### and I am sick of being in the hotel. All I keep hearing is Schneider's terrible pay. All the students see this is just a stepping stone to move on to better things. I'm not looking at just making maximum money off the rip I want to get good quality experience that way I can make hiring me an excellent option.
What have I gotten myself into...
After Schneider what are my best options to make a good living?
How real is this going to get? Schneider Bulk Training?

You have gotten yourself into trucking, that's what. FurFur, you have got to get some experience somewhere and believe me, working New Years Day is not unusual in this industry. I wouldn't worry so much about what other people say about your company. I whole heatedly believe you could start your career working for much worse companies. No, I don't work for Schneider.

Your lack of patience may be counterproductive in this industry.
We do a lot of waiting. And forget the calendar as you know it. This is not your 9 to 5, not even close.RockinChair, x1Heavy, Sirscrapntruckalot and 5 others Thank this. -
As it's been said...(to quote Hyman Roth-[Godfather 2]) "This is the life we have chosen". You have a chance to make a very good living...but not at first. You could get a job that suits your preferences...but not at first. If you get into bulk hauling, Schneider is about as good a place as you can get to get the training you're gonna need. One thing however they won't be able to teach you is patience...and that might be the most important thing for you to possess as a truck driver. Go through the training, learn everything you possibly can, and then spend a year or two putting together an impeccable safety & service record. After that you may be surprised to find out just how easy it'll be to find a job that meets a large percentage of your requirements (No company does 100%).
Number5, Sirscrapntruckalot, Thanos and 3 others Thank this. -
I worked for Schneider and I took maximum benefit of their training. It was better than most companies and leaving now will hurt you more in the long run. Not only training wise but showing you can’t hold a job longer than a month.

You seem like you have a brain.....
You shoulda waited on Fastenal- Way Better opportunity.
They certainly wouldn't keep you in a box on New Years day- Just for starters.
Schneider along with many other mega carriers want to control you like your in a military like quandra.
Forget about it- Go for the Gold standard with Fastenal. Youll thank me later.jsnell Thanks this. -
Schneider tanker drivers make good money; don't think you have anything to worry about on that.
After Schneider, try to get on with Trimac Transportation Elite Fleet and make over $100K per year. Coast to coast.

I forgot to mention I'll being doing regional with Schneider. Yes, they do treat us like we're in the military. I guess my biggest complaint is having to shave my beard. I don't like that at all. Do petroleum drivers have to keep a clean-shaven face?

Not all places require you to shave.
I pull a chemical tanker and have a pretty long beard
