It says both classroom and behind the wheel training.....

Then they’ll set you up with a drayage company.
They claim a 70 percent placement rate.........

I highly doubt it’s 70% and even tho it’s 70% it’s still considered “barely” passing and low placement rates

When the likes of ITT claimed a 99% placement, and still got shut down for not actually providing a hireable education, a 70% placement is ridiculous.

Also, consider all the articles I've read on how horrible the rates are for port workers, what kinda pay would a port worker make?

Also, there is another funding option.... Go to a bank and get a loan. No need to mooch off family.

Goodwill paid for mine. I had to jump thru hoops and wait for an opening at the school. In the end it worked out well for me. I wanted to avoid being obligated to a company if at all possible.

Find a trucking school that offers a discounted price if paid within a year or so. When I got my CDL, they told me it would cost me $3,600 if paid within a year, or $4,200 if it takes me 1-3 years.

Different trucking schools will offer different payment options. Find the one that fits your plans. There are companies who won’t charge at all, but require that you stay with them for a certain amount, typically a year.

There is another option. Old Dominion, Estes, YRC, SAIA, and other LTL Carriers train drivers. Why go $3-8k in debt (depending on the school and location) just to make $38-50k/your first year?

At Estes, you have to work the dock 90 days to be eligible for their driver program. Once you’ve completed the driver program, you decide to run city, combo, or extraboard and apply to any open driving position at the terminal you’re working at. I believe there is a 2 year commitment involved. But you won’t mind doing the two years, unless you hate making $1500-2500/wk.

Of course, Old Dominion and others have their own driver programs. Check them out. You may find something you like
