I have been hauling these for over a year with zero shifts, the only securement is the non slip mats, gravity, and not driving like an idiot....

However, blitz is coming up with cargo securement at the top of the checks so I figured I would ask what I should throw in there for window decoration if the DOT decides to cut my seal?

I have load bars and e-track straps available.

    Thanks

If trailer is sealed they ain't getting in to see it. Typically if they target something like securements it's gonna be on flatbeds something easily spotted. Rarely do they check inside for load securement. And never sweat this dumb blitz, in 20 years I e never been inspected during it

Good to know. The higher ups made it sound dire and told us to be prepared to have our seals cut... appreciate the insight

What do the higher ups suggest to hold the paper rolls? There’s no securement that will hold them. It’s impossible. The sheer weight is the only thing holding them. They won’t move. If there’s an accident that can move them, no securement is going to help. From what I understand there are basically no securement rules at all for Dry Van. They bounced it around for about 5 years. About 20 years ago made a final rule stating that the walls are sufficient securement. Basic common sense applies here. A strap or two in front of a high pallet, maybe a strap or two on the back of the Load for certain items. Personal preference to avoid a claim is the main thing. I’m pretty sure there is no rule, unless something has changed. You can look it up on fmcsa website, Maybe print off, download, or screen shot a copy of the “final rule” along with a copy of “interpretation “ carefully and politely educate the DOT if needed. Lol.

those big rolls weigh about 7K-8K a piece. you can't strap to wall the walls will cave in, don't ask how I know.

I've a hauled crap load of them for hundreds of miles.

    they are dangerous!

drive like a tanker, no sudden stops, no hard cornering.

    gravity mats is it.

If they want to they can cut the seal and give you a form saying why the seal was cut as well as signing off on the new seal they put on.

I had Texas cut the seal on my dry van when I was with Landstar. Said he was checking for securement. Trailer had come across from Mexico through Laredo so he was probably checking for dope or illegals. Got up into the trailer and climbed up on the freight and went all the way to the front. Then he resealed the trailer and took off.

Put a couple of straps across from e-track to e-track. Sure, it's lipstick on a pig. No doubt about it. However, it only takes two minutes, and in the unlikely event they do happen to cut the seal, it looks better to the officer.

Looking like you pay attention to small details is almost as important as actually paying attention to the small details. In the end, if it looks good at a quick glance, they sometimes figure you have your stuff together and don't look too deep.
