Maybe you and Gentleroger live in parts of the country where these kind of people don’t exist, but I’ve seen entirely too much funny #### over the years to just naively assume that everything was above board at all times.
Here’s what’s probably the most brazen example of crooked #### I ever seen here. The names will be changed of course to protect the lowlifes who may not actually deserve it. Office critter can’t raise his kids right, so he gets stuck with grandson. Driver A gets wind of this and informs office critter that Mrs driver A runs daycare out of their house. Office critter agrees and pays Driver A back with special treatment, one example of being driver B gets sent 30 miles out of the way to whatever pickups driver A doesn’t feel like doing.
To continue, here’s another good one that I personally witnessed. Driver B gets sent a full load pickup on the back end of his run so he rearranges the last few stops to empty out right next door to the place, only to have it pulled off at the last minute and replaced with 3 or 4 pickups 30 miles out of the way in Driver A’s area, that actually are on his way home. Driver B gets out on the highway to head to the other ones, and here comes driver A who just came way the hell out of his territory to get the full load.
Smells awful fishy to me, not to mention a blatant conflict of interest for those who know what that term means.
I have no problem helping out if needed, and can actually give the benefit of the doubt when things do go sideways. #### happens…. but not every day. When that goes on every day either somebody is getting catered to, or somebody else is getting deliberately ####ed with.
Granted, I’m not crazy about the way union companies operate, particularly with things like incessant rebids and job class seniority, but if management were honest union talk would be non-existent, since keeping management honest is supposed to be a union’s primary purpose.Rugerfan, hotrod1653 and road_runner Thank this. -
I pissed in management's cheerio's by making a fuss about coming off of ######## dock work and P&D runs everyone refused and being on call all day and night by trying to force myself into a linehaul run they kept promising.
At the end of the day my dock and P&D performance were boosting managements numbers too much. Too valuable in my position to get put on linehaul. Being the yesman for the company gets you all the ########. When things slow down you get crumbs. When things are running wide open you get the crap runs nobody else will do.
Meanwhile 400lb tub of lard guy gets a linehaul spot off the street while you've been in a ######## position from day one. Or a random guy off the street gets put into a regular P&D bid with a fixed schedule and not on call because he can't run a forklift.
I'm still ####ing bitter about it all. 20hrs a week emptying trash cans in the winter. Go stay in a hotel for month straight in some random state in the summer. Here is 3 48' liftgates that need to be delivered in 8 hours that are stacked to the door so tight you can't pull the pallets out. Also, 8 hours of dockwork when you get back. No lunch breaks either btw. We'll call you with a start time for tomorrow 5 hours into your 10.Rugerfan and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
So no I don't give a rat's ### about dispatchers or management. #### em all. Always asking for favors but when it comes time for your turn you get told to eat #### and be thankful they allow you to work for them.
hope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
Wow. What company was that?

OD combo
jmz and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
You're the first guy I've ever heard say anything bad about OD.
Lumper Humper and jmz Thank this. -
Linehaul is godly though. No dock work, easy turns, reliable gate times, good equipment, amazing pay, etc.
OD is a fantastic company to work for and I'll tell everyone that. With one caveat. Combo ####ing sucks. The combo spot is the ####### child spot. It also depends on your terminal. I've worked OD terminals that were awesome. My home terminal had a lot of ladder climbers looking to move into corporate. I tried transferring to another terminal and that put me on the #### list. Got strung along about being moved to linehaul and it never happened everytime a new "we'll switch you by this date" came to pass.
Happened to quite a few Combo guys before me. One guy was strung along for like 7 years before giving up.
Final straw was when rando's off the street got dedicated start times when I would be called in half a dozen times to have my start time changed repeatedly. Drive into work 7 times was my record before working 2 hours. Absolute bull ####.
All the line and dock guys said to tank my numbers to get switched. A combo guy did that and he got put on extra board. If I were smart I'd have done the same but I can't bring myself to do crap like that. I run wide open at work. Always have. Even when it is causing me issues. Can't help it and I hate it honestly.
But yeah, OD is the best LTL for drivers. Assuming you are Line or P&D. Never sign onto a combo spot I say.plynnjr92, AnthonyM757, Lumper Humper and 2 others Thank this. -
they run you all day, and make sure you never qualify for overtime by manipulating your clockin and clock out times.
make you clock out at 6 hours on Thursday so you can work 16 on Friday giving you exactly 54.9 hours so you get no overtime.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
