In my rookie years, Cajon pass was was not posted for 45 mph, it was California 55 mph. I drove that pass down at 55 in a 6-71 jimmie behind a 10 speed with NO jakes always with gross weight. Never had an issue. Drivers these days are spoiled and have no idea how gravy they have it.
JolliRoger and MM71 Thank this. -
That said, when I was OTR, I was always a fan of the Georgia cruise control coming down Fort Bridger.
p.s. If anyone happen to see me with both my arms in the air and hollering Weeeeeeee out the window, I’d be grateful if you could see yer way clear not to tell any more folk than necessary.Vic Firth, Speed_Drums, LoSt_AgAiN and 2 others Thank this. -

Just remember, you can only go too fast down Cajun once, otherwise you'll be off the side into the canyon or plowing into the stopped traffic which always happens right around the 138 chicken coop.....ive seen many trucks smoking the brakes or #### near on fire who didn't set the gear before descending...

If driving freightliner with their DT-12 transmission, it also has a special Descent Mode you can put transmission in. Is basically cruise control in reverse. It can hold the truck at the speed you set it for and turn on engine brakes automatically.

CR England driving school takes their trainees on Cajon.

Don’t know how anyone can go down that grade with much speed. All the traffic moving at about 11 mph.
Diesel Dave, Wasted Thyme and Vic Firth Thank this.
