He was on the National Dedicated Account, which means filling in at various dedicated accounts. For anyone willing to stay out 6 weeks or more, it's very financially rewarding. The downside is working accounts like Dollar General, but they're still making 15-20% more than any driver actually running the account.
He was assigned to a Home Depot account that runs daycabs out of a particular store on the north side of Indy. He still had his sleeper truck, but would use the day cab to run the freight. The account manager wanted him to sleep on the HD lot so he had a full 14 to use at the start of every day like the domiciled drivers who commute from home. All he had to do was to bob tail his sleeper to whichever was closest - the Pilot or the OC every night. His DTL would have backed that if the account manager started squealing.
The problem was two fold - first he didn't communicate his needs and second he didn't stand his ground - either on his needs or poorly loaded freight. That bodes ill for the new gig.Sons Hero, Chi Town Steers, Long FLD and 2 others Thank this. -
